Concrete is not a finish. It is a decision you cannot take back.

We work on buildings that have to stand for longer than the arguments that produced them. That rules out a great deal: cladding that is a drawing rather than a construction, plans that require a manual, and any detail we could not explain to the person who has to repair it in 2090.

What is left is heavy, cheap to keep, and usually made from what was already on the site. Six of our projects reused their own demolition as aggregate. One of them is made entirely of the hole it stands in.

Move 01

Find the thing that cannot move

Sixteen slip-formed cells, 34 metres tall, built in 1931 to hold grain and daylight out. Demolition was priced at 3.4 million euros. We priced the cut instead.

Move 02

Take one thing away

A single 4-metre slot, wire-sawn over eleven weeks through the north wall of cells 6 to 11. The 410 tonnes removed were crushed on site and poured back as the aggregate in the new floors.

Move 03

Add nothing you cannot remove

Racking is freestanding, services are surface-run, saw marks are unground. The archive can be emptied in a fortnight and the silo would be a silo again.
